Registered Clinical Counsellor and Somatic Experience Practitioner
Kim Younger (she, her, hers)
I am humbled and grateful to be joining Kaizen Wellness Centre in Revelstoke. I lived here over 15 years ago and am looking forward to returning. The land, the mountains and the people are calling me back. My family name is Laboucan and my patrilineal ancestry is Cree/Métis from Peace River area, I come from a long line of trappers and bush people, my matrilineal ancestry is from France and Scotland, and I am a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. My connection to the land is deeply personal and informs my work as a therapist.
I have a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, NB, and an Indigenous Specialization in Social Work from the University of Victoria, BC. I am registered as a Canadian Clinical Counsellor, certified as a trauma therapist in Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP™) and trained in Narrative Therapy and Indigenous Focused Oriented Therapy.
I’ve had the privilege of serving diverse communities, both in remote and urban settings for over 18 years in mental health and educational leadership. My most recent experience has been as the clinical lead therapist with a men’s wilderness addictions treatment program, private practice and co-facilitating an outpatient holistic addictions program, as well as curating and facilitating trainings on Suicide Intervention & Prevention.
I come most alive when I can be creative in expressing one of my many purposes in this lifetime: to reclaim and restore health in individuals, families, and communities. I am a lifelong learner and continue to decolonize my approach to healing by honoring each person’s innate individual and collective wisdom. My approach is to guide people—whether from BIPOC, settler, or other communities—toward their fullest expression of self.
My work is best described as a tapestry of weaving meaningful therapeutic approaches together to create a context of healing that is relational, relevant, and centered around goals and values that are relevant for you. Specializing in working with adults who may be living with symptoms and expressions of PTSD, C-PTSD, intergenerational trauma, compassion fatigue, life transitions, accidents, stress, anger/conflict, anxiety, addictions and chronic suicidality.
“It is the ability to make meaning of our difficulties, pain, suffering, and trauma, which allows us to transform it into healing.”-Eduardo Duran
I invite individuals from all walks of life to reach out, knowing that each person’s journey is unique and worthy of compassion, support and healing.
